Axle Rebuilding

Sadly no photos exist of the repairs to the chassis. The chassis was cut and repaired from 2013 onwards. At least 50% of it is new, all new outriggers, new front irons and new rear sill. These pictures were taken in my first workshop in Sheffield.

The next step was the axles and suspension. This work was done in around 2014. the axles were blasted complete the given a lick of red oxide and the hubs disassembled. New bearings and breaks all around. The front has completely new ball joints as they were badly pitted with rust.

This is the first major mechanical work I have ever done in my life, I had very few tools, no idea, nobody to help and very little money.

New shocks all round and new parabolic springs. After a long time of doing a few hours after night shifts at Tesco, I had a rolling chassis.

I found a very hardwearing machinery paint for the running gear. I wanted a dark red and tried to mix one. It is lighter than I had hoped but darker than this picture shows.

Brand new parabolic springs coated with wax-oil waiting to go on.

Standing on her own 4 legs. Very exciting at this point. Even though there is a monumental amount to go.
